Prime Day 2020 is here, and will last until 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, October 14. As with Black Friday — we’re going to be working to help you find the actual great deals you’ll want to know about (and not the “on sale” food processor that’s cheaper eleswhere). And if you’re not sure where to start, we’re ready to help.

Remind me, what is Prime Day again?

Launched in 2015, Prime Day is a sitewide sales event on Amazon for Prime members only. On actual Prime Day — which, for the second year in a row, will last a full two days — Amazon releases lightning deals on various products throughout the day, which continue for a few hours or until the items sell out. (One tip: They often sell out, so it’s best not to dillydally.)

What is on sale during Prime Day?

Typically, there are endless “deals” advertised for Prime Day, but we’ve always focused on the actually good ones, including many things we’ve written about on the Strategist. As you can imagine, Amazon items (like a Kindle or an Echo) are usually where you can really score, but otherwise, finding actual bargains will require some wading through a lot of, well, muck. (That’s where we come in. Our editors are on deal-watch, helping you sniff out the best Prime Day steals.)

Experts recommended this imaginative party game to us. They say it’s “a great icebreaker of a game, fantastic for getting everyone interacting.”

According to contributor Coco Khan, “from art-workers to editors, ad execs to HR, everyone at The Guardian in London seems to bring the same things to every meeting: phone, laptop, notepad, pen, pencil (for the people in design), and a Chilly’s water bottle”.

When we researched the best rice cookers on Amazon, reviewers liked this model. In total, it can cook six portions of rice, but several students wrote that it’s perfect for one-person meals, cooking a single portion in 15 minutes.

CeraVe Moisturising Cream

Beauty writer Daniela Morosini wrote an ode to this cheap (and now even cheaper) body cream. “I’ve tried nearly everything on the market, from super-whipped, thick creams from expensive bath and body brands, to high-tech body serums from cosmeceutical companies and luxurious oils from natural brands. But nothing is ever quite as good as CeraVe Moisturising Cream.”

When we researched the best mattresses on Amazon, many buyers said they were fully convinced by the quality of this Emma mattress— one reviewer raved that, by helping him wake up better, the mattress gave him a new lease on life. This mattress also has an extended trial period, and Emma says that it will pay for any return postage.

Meg Liu, co-founder of ESHK Hair in London and Berlin, calls the ghd original an “industry standard.” It’s also her “long-time favourite” to use on her own hair as well as her clients’. For Meg, the best thing about ghd straighteners is their build quality: In her words, “the iron plate is so smooth that your hair doesn’t suffer, regardless of style.”

This hairdresser-recommended mask works well for all hair textures (from “bone straight to super coily curly”).

If you were on the fence about the German motor-powered squeegee that Strategist writer Chris Mandle uses on his shower door, bathroom mirror, and tiles, you’re in luck.

Meanwhile, this Echo Dot (which we recommend in our gift guide for Dads) is the cheapest we’ve ever seen it.

A well-discounted mini projector.

There’s a saving of almost £300 on this Chromebook.
